The Correlation between the Scores of the Clinical Performance Examination and its Related Subject on the Medical Students

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate correlations between medical student scores on Clinical
performance examination and its related subjects (subject of integrated curriculum, clerkship).

Methods: The scores of Clinical performance examination and its related subjects (subject of integrated curriculum, clerkship) of forty-seven students who graduated Daegu Catholic Medical School in 2011 were included. Correlations between their scores were analyzed using T scores statistically.

Results: There was no significant correlation between the Clinical performance examination scores and its related clerkship scores. Clinical performance examination scores showed moderate correlation with the its related written
test scores in 2 Clinical performance examination cases (Abnormal urination: .43, P<.001, Constipation: .29, P<.05).
Regarding detailed scores on the clinical performance examination, only constipation of history taking score
correlated with clerkship score (.39, P<.05) and written test score (.33, P<.05). In addition, only abnormal urination
of physical examination score moderately correlated with written test (.42, P<.01).

Conclusion: Acquisition of medical knowledge cannot make student to become a good doctor. Some suggestions are given to minimize the gap between learning outcome and essential content for becoming a good doctor.
